Direct TV local channels have the same low price nationwide. In cable, the cost of local channels is part of what you pay for limited basic service - you can't really tell how much they cost. Most consumers can get Direct TV local channels, but a small number live in an area where they can't get the local channels. Therefore, Direct TV charges separately for local channels service so only customers receiving the service have to pay for it.
