The DirecTV
works with a small dish which is for receiving satellite
signals and integrated receiver cum decoder which does
the job of separation of channels, decompression and
translation of signals and also conversion of digital
satellite signals to analog signal that the standard
television set can understand

DirecTV
basically operates by distributing signals through 6
high power satellites namely DBS-1, DBS-2, DIRECTV 1-R,
D4-S, DIRECTV 5, DirecTV 6.the D4-s is a specialized
satellite called the spot beam satellite which targets
specific areas in the US to deliver local programming.
The spot beam satellite employs 5 antennas and uses
multiple feeds. it is specially shaped to target the
signal to specific regions of the country
All of
DirecTV’s satellites are geosynchronous, put up over
22000 miles about eh earth. The fcc has granted
operations for 3 orbital locations. After installations
of the satellites in space no special adjustment or
programming is required to position the satellite. They
remain at the same location in the sky. thus the tiny
dish on you rooftop never looses track of the satellite
way up in the sky
DirecTV
Satellite system employs the most sophisticated digital
broadcast centers to ensure digital quality sound and
video. it has centers in Castle Rock, Colorado, and Los
Angeles, California. Most of the satellite programming
received from various channels are immediately
digitized, encrypted, compressed and unlinked or beamed
up to the satellites in space.
The satellites
do the job of redeeming the signal into the dishes
located on top on customer’s houses. PEG is a standard
that compress and decompress video signals. It’s the
same computer technology used in compression and
decompression of video signals used in DirecTV
transmission. This technology ensures digital quality
picture to be transmitted seamlessly through thin air.
The mpeg2 technology used in DirecTV is to become
tomorrow’s transmission standard. And guess who uses it
today?? Yes DirecTV
